Very simple set of predictions: Winner, Runner Up, Relegated, Top Scorer and surprise package.
I personally feel that Celtic and their board will do all that it takes to achieve 10 in a row. Peter Lawwell knows exactly what it means to the fans and I believe that if Celtic were to fall behind in the league to Rangers that serious financial backing would be provided in January.
Their strongest 11 is still the best side in the league for me and I think if they can keep their key men especially Odsonne Edouard fit then history will be made this season.
Runner Up: Rangers
There is no doubting the fact that Steven Gerrard has improved Rangers since taking over. His record in Europe is very impressive and heading into the winter break I thought the momentum was well and truly worth Rangers. However, when the pressure mounted after the winter break, they wilted and ran out of steam.
I think they’ll push Celtic for longer than they did last season provided they have a proven goal scorer in their ranks – whether that is Morelos or a new player only time will tell. All eyes will be on Hagi and Kent to see if they can be the creative sparks to end Celtic’s dominance. As I’ve said, I think they’ll get closer to Celtic but ultimately just miss out on the title.
I have massive respect for Hamilton as a football club and for Brian Rice as a manger. They’ve always treated me incredibly well and I wish them every success but I have to be honest with these predictions and as it stands I think they are in trouble. Alexander Gogic will be a huge loss to Accies as will Aaron McGowan. The lack of an established number 1 goalkeeper is also an issue that worries me. They’ve proven us all wrong in the past and I wouldn’t be surprised if they showcase their renowned resilience to stay up again but at the time of writing they are my tip to go down.
Top Scorer: Odsonne Eduoard
An incredibly talented player who will play at the elite level of football whenever he leaves Celtic. I would expect this to be his last season at Celtic Park and I fully expect him to go out with a bang and earn true legendary status at Celtic. His goals and performances will be key to 10 in a row becoming a reality.
Surprise package: Kilmarnock
I know this maybe won’t be much of a surprise but Killie tailed off slightly under Alessio and Alex Dyer while he was in interim charge. However, I believe that their recruitment has been steady and by having a full pre season with the squad now that he is the permanent manager, Dyer and Killie will regain their place in the top 6 and claim some high profile scalps this season.
