Lesly de Sar: Ajax, Dutch Football and Foreign adventures

You signed AFC Eskilstuna in February 2020. How are you enjoying your time in Sweden so far and how would you describe a club such as AFC Eskilstuna?

I am really enjoyed my time at AFC Eskilstuna and I am pleased to be here in Sweden. I have felt at home since my first training session.AFC Eskilstuna are a very ambitious club who want to achieve promotion to the Swedish top division (Allsvenskan) and everybody at the club respects that and is working hard to achieve it.

We have a great coach in Özcan Melkemichel and he has a great back room staff too and that helps to prepare us for matches in the best possible environment and I am really happy with that.

You came through the youth setup at Ajax and made many appearances for the first team. How do you look back on your time at the club and do you have any highlights or special memories?

To sum up my time at Ajax in one word would be awesome. Ajax is the best youth education that a player can receive and the highlight for my was arriving at the club at the age of eight and all the Championships that we celebrated at all different age groups.

I had some great teammates, made some great friends and we played under some great managers. I signed my first professional contract at the club at the age of 16 which made me very proud. I debuted for the first team at the age of 18 against VV Noordwijk and I also scored. Also winning the Eredivisie with Ajax was a very special moment because the dream was always to win the Eredivisie with Ajax and becoming champions of the Netherlands.

I am really grateful for god for helping me to achieve that because anything I can do is down to him

You played one season for Go Ahead Eagles. How do you look back on your time in Deventer and do you have any special highlights or memories from your time at the club?

Go Ahead Eagles are a really nice and compact club. They have a great following and that is something that really stayed with me during my time there. Their fans would give us so much power during the home matches and it is one of the things that makes the club special.

I did not play as many games as I would have liked due to injuries but I had a great time at the club. I remember the first match of the season at home against FC Groningen in the De Adelaarshorst (Home Stadium) and won 3-1. I scored and played really well. Unfortunately we were relegated that season but Go Ahead is a great club to play for and I am proud to have played for them

You have played in the Netherlands , Slovakia and now in Sweden. Could you say who are among the best players you have played alongside so far in your career?

I played together with Christian Eriksen at Ajax and he is one of the best players I have played with. I learned an awful lot from Kenneth Vermeer and Lasse Schöne. When I arrived in the first team squad Lasse Schöne played in the same position as me and he gave me so great advice especially in a positional sense and I really enjoyed learning a lot from him and both him and Kenneth really helped me to feel comfortable.

I can imagine in your position as a winger that you have played against some difficult opponents through the years. Could you say which opponents have stood put for your in terms of talent and ability?

In terms of teams Red Bull Salzburg were a very difficult team to play against in Europe. They were a very strong team who would quickly apply pressure and impose their pressing game on us. In terms of player I would say Kévin Constant of AC Milan when we played them in the Champions League in Amsterdam. He is a great left back who is very quick and physically very strong and certainly a played equipped to play at Champions League level.

Finally Lesly, Could you say who are the coaches and managers who have meant a lot to do and who have played a key role in your development as a professional football?

Fred Grim (Current RKC Waalwijk Manager) and Wim Jonk (Current FC Volendam Manager).

Alfons Groenendijk all played apart in the back room staff when I played for Ajax and Frank De Boer gave me my debut. These are the coaches and managers that have certainly influenced my career and here it AFC Eskilstuna I have a manager in Özcan Melkemichel who can make me a better player.

Alfons Groenendijk was my manager at Jong Ajax and we had a great team that was well drilled and he knew the right moments to give a pat on the back to players and also when to challenge players. In the back room staff at Ajax Dennis Bergkamp and Wim Jonk taught also taught me a lot.
