Dear Steve, Dear Scotland.
For 22 years we oversaw too many scenes of heartbreak, failure and sadness.
Too long we had been nearly but not quite.
France 98’ seemed a lifetime ago. But, on Thursday night in Belgrade, your team and fifteen men in blue and white turned our fortunes around.
I knew we had the players to do it: A League and Champions League winner in Andy Robertson, a top class goalkeeper in David Marshall, a superb striker in Lyndon Dykes and a midfield dynamo of John McGinn and wee Ryan Christie.
But we also had one thing many countries wish they had too: RESILIENCE!
Too often we had been kicked in the nuts and punched in the face but we kept on coming back for more and last night, we did it!
Our fans deserved this!
Steve, you picked the right team on Thursday night. You picked a team that did the job. You picked a team that left everything out on that Belgrade pitch and above all you picked a team with no regrets.
Us fans of Scotland got what we wanted to see last night: a nation that gave it everything.
We left nothing on the table.
The Serbians, on paper, had better individual players than us but we had: SPIRIT
We are finally back at a major finals for the first time since Craig Brown, France and 1998. The target is off his shoulders at last and the baton has been passed.
I hope anyone who doubted you is eating humble pie.
I always believed.
We’ve set up that match against England. We’ve set up that head to head against Croatia. We’ve set up that battle against the Czechs.
So thank you…
SIR STEVE CLARKE.
Come on Scotland.
This is our time
Bring on the Euros!!!!
